The new course used part of the land from the original 9-hole course, but changed the layout, and added new fields to the south and north-east of Cruicks House.

You can compare it to the original nine hole course, and later 18-hole courses on the Golf Course Maps page.

One of the reasons for the success of the Ferryhills course was its proximity to North Queensferry Railway Station.

The North British Railway Company were persuaded to offer special Golfers Railway Concessions. This scheme in various forms ran until the 1920s.
